CRPF Jawan Beaten by Kanwariyas at Mirzapur Railway Station: Shocking Video & Arrest

MIRZAPUR, Uttar Pradesh – July 19, 2025

CRPF Jawan Beaten – A shocking incident has emerged from Mirzapur railway station in Uttar Pradesh, where a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was brutally assaulted by a group of Kanwariyas (devotees participating in the Kanwar Yatra). The incident, captured on CCTV footage, shows the uniformed jawan being punched, kicked, and pinned to the ground by saffron-clad pilgrims, sparking widespread outrage and raising serious questions about law and order during religious processions.

The confrontation, which occurred on Saturday morning, reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the purchase of train tickets. The CRPF jawan, identified as Gautam Kumar from Khutha, Dehat Kotwali, was on his way to board the Brahmaputra Mail, bound for Manipur, when the altercation began.

Despite attempts by a few bystanders to intervene, the assault continues for a considerable duration. The jawan reportedly tried to retaliate but was overpowered by the group.

Swift Action: Seven Kanwariyas Arrested (CRPF Jawan Beaten)

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) responded swiftly to the incident. Upon receiving information about the assault, RPF personnel rushed to the scene and initiated an investigation.

RPF In-charge Inspector Chaman Singh Tomar confirmed that seven Kanwariyas have been taken into custody in connection with the assault. “Around 9:30 AM today, the CRPF jawan was waiting to board the Brahmaputra Mail when he had an argument with some men in red clothes. We have taken seven people into custody and further investigation is on,” Inspector Tomar stated. A case has been registered against the arrested individuals, some of whom are reportedly minors.

The Kanwar Yatra, an annual pilgrimage observed during the Hindu month of Shravan (Sawan), sees Lord Shiva devotees carrying sacred Ganga water on foot to offer at various temples. This year’s Yatra began on July 11 and is scheduled to conclude on July 23.

This incident, coming amidst other isolated reports of nuisance and violence during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, has intensified scrutiny on public safety and the need for stricter adherence to law and order, even during large religious gatherings. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in the Mirzapur incident.
